MONTAIONE is approx. 2 km from Ghizzolo and can easily be reached by car, bike or on foot. The village and its vicinity boast a large variety of very good to excellent restaurants, offering everything from traditional Tuscan specialties to star-rated cuisine.
Montaione is also the perfect starting point for many activities like daytrips to the region’s highlights, e.g. cities such as Florence, Pisa, Siena or Lucca, historic gems like San Gimignano, Colle di Val D’Elsa, Monteriggioni and Volterra, or any number of quaint villages such as Pietrasanta (highly recommended!).
Are you more into sports, for instance golf, hiking, biking (MTB or road), tennis, horseback riding? Or do you love to explore the region’s geographic features or the beauty of its cities and towns? Do you prefer to visit festivals, exhibitions and other events?
Day trips and excursions
To Florence we recommend taking the train. Traffic in Florence is always very busy, the city center is a ‘limited traffic zone’ (high fines) and the parking garages are often packed. Leaving the car on unsupervised parking lots at the periphery is not necessarily a good idea.
From Castelfiorentino there are fast and easy train connections to Florence, Siena and Pisa – and there is a practical parking lot close to Castelfiorentino station.
